What is Bartercard?

It is recognized as the world’s largest private currency for the exclusive use in the small to medium sized enterprise sector.

It primarily does 3 things:

  • A sales and marketing tool that GUARANTEES to bring you new customers
  • A financial tool that decreases the cost of buying things by up to 87%
  • A SME network of over 77,000 business owners who do business with one another rather than the big chains

How does Bartercard work?

It puts into action 17 ways of selling your SPARE capacity [the difference between what you are currently turning over compared to what you could be doing without increasing fixed overhead] to fellow Bartercard members - you receive Bartercard currency [trade pounds in the UK].

You then spend those trade pounds with ANY of the other global Bartercard member businesses – so you in effect "barter" your unsold capacity without having to directly reciprocate with the same business at the same time for the same value . Bartercard send you a bank like statement every month so you can keep track of your transactions and account balance.

What would I spend my trade pounds on?

  • Regular business expenses - Accounting, printing, office etc
  • All things to get known and attract cash customers - Sponsorship, promotions, PR, advertising and marketing
  • All things to get your website working for you
  • Wealth Creation - We have our own real estate department.
  • Charitable Donations - Our local charity is Julia's House
  • Personal Lifestyle - Are you in business to be a slave to it?
      • Stephen & Melissa Arnold — Sign & Print Graphix
"Our company, Sign & Print Graphix, has been a member of Bartercard Dorset since Jan 2002. Bartercard works exceptionally well for us, we spend and then work off our debt in quieter times

Bartercard is better than any credit card, as you buy the things you want or need and work it back into your everyday business. You can also sell things you don't need anymore to someone who does, with no risks on the auction site.

We furnished our complete lounge and dining room on Bartercard with a leather sofa and solid oak furniture. To pay it back we supplied vinyl graphics, banners and signs when we were less busy.

We have also bought clothing and toys for our children, eaten at restaurants and next month we are off an a complete holiday package for 6 to Cyprus which includes flights, limo to the airport, transfers and accomodation, all on Bartercard!

Barercard really works for us and can work for you too! "

      • Gavin Williams - CEO — Honey PLC
"My company, Honey PLC has been a Bartercard Dorset member for at least five years. we have transacted hundreds of trades over that time; our own products lend themselves very well to the Bartercard exchange.

We have also been very happy with the Bartercard Auction site, which we have used to sell everything from desks to private cars. Using the trade pounds fro the sale of two cars we were able to replace the windows in our own home.

I would recommend Bartercard to any business people with unused inventory, be that empty hotel rooms, restaurant tables, excess or redundant stock or hours or labour etc.

The trade co-ordinators are constantly in touch with us with details of special offers, new members or items we would not have found ourselves. As the trade co-ordinators have got to know us better they make sure we always hear about those things that interest us.

Bartercard is not a cure-all or a magic solution. It's important to maintain a close eye on the amount of trading you do and ensure you work hard to keep your spending in line with your earnings. We converted at least five of our suppliers to Bartercard ensuring that we were spending our trade pounds on items we were already buying for cash.

We are very happy with the Bartercard principle and with the team of trade co-ordinators who look after our account and help us with the earning and importantly the spending of our trade pounds."

      • Gavin Fisher - The Dorset Children's Hospice — Julias House
"My apologies, I have written to thank everyone else for donating their Trade Pounds, but not to Bartercard Dorset, so thank you so much, not just for your donation but for organising everyone else's too.

Thanks to the generosity of members of Bartercard Dorset we have raised enough trade pounds to purchase various items for our garden appeal as well as various items for fundraising events, such as prizes. As you know, we have recently opened our children's hospice at Corfe Mullen, which is the only one in Dorset and we are keen to complete the work on the back garden in time for the children to enjoy the lovely sumemr weather outside.

As well as the hospice, we have around 50 nurses and carers travelling the country, caring for life-limited and life-threatened children in their own homes. Clearly this work costs a great deal and without government funding we are wholly reliant on the local community. Consequently, the goods and services that we are able to buy through Bartercard make a big difference to our ability to care for these children, so thank you very much for your significant part in this.

With thanks again and best wishes"
