    Bartercard is better than any credit card, as you buy the things you want or need and work it back into your everyday business. You can also sell things you don't need anymore to someone who does, with no risks on the auction site.

    We furnished our complete lounge and dining room on Bartercard with a leather sofa and solid oak furniture. To pay it back we supplied vinyl graphics, banners and signs when we were less busy.

    We have also bought clothing and toys for our children, eaten at restaurants and next month we are off an a complete holiday package for 6 to Cyprus which includes flights, limo to the airport, transfers and accomodation, all on Bartercard!

    "My apologies, I have written to thank everyone else for donating their Trade Pounds, but not to Bartercard Dorset, so thank you so much, not just for your donation but for organising everyone else's too.

    Thanks to the generosity of members of Bartercard Dorset we have raised enough trade pounds to purchase various items for our garden appeal as well as various items for fundraising events, such as prizes. As you know, we have recently opened our children's hospice at Corfe Mullen, which is the only one in Dorset and we are keen to complete the work on the back garden in time for the children to enjoy the lovely sumemr weather outside.

    As well as the hospice, we have around 50 nurses and carers travelling the country, caring for life-limited and life-threatened children in their own homes. Clearly this work costs a great deal and without government funding we are wholly reliant on the local community. Consequently, the goods and services that we are able to buy through Bartercard make a big difference to our ability to care for these children, so thank you very much for your significant part in this.

    We have also been very happy with the Bartercard Auction site, which we have used to sell everything from desks to private cars. Using the trade pounds fro the sale of two cars we were able to replace the windows in our own home.

    I would recommend Bartercard to any business people with unused inventory, be that empty hotel rooms, restaurant tables, excess or redundant stock or hours or labour etc.

    The trade co-ordinators are constantly in touch with us with details of special offers, new members or items we would not have found ourselves. As the trade co-ordinators have got to know us better they make sure we always hear about those things that interest us.

    Bartercard is not a cure-all or a magic solution. It's important to maintain a close eye on the amount of trading you do and ensure you work hard to keep your spending in line with your earnings. We converted at least five of our suppliers to Bartercard ensuring that we were spending our trade pounds on items we were already buying for cash.

    Bartercard enables us to purchase a very wide range of products and services without having to pay cash, and at the same time provides our suppliers with a guarantee that they will be paid promptly. Where we are looking for new suppliers, we have now adopted Bartercard as our preferred method of purchase.

    In a nutshell the way the sytem works is that we pay Bartercard suppliers in Trade Pounds whcih they can use in turn to buy goods and services from any other Bartercard member. The Bartercard team also provide a purchasing and marketing service for members.

    The approach is particularly useful for a football club like ourselves as we frequently have cash flow problems, and we have spare capacity in the form of empty seats on match days and the stadium facility on non-match days.

    Like many people I was sceptical - why would I want anything other than cash for my business? As a new business especially, I was concerned that we would spend time on Bartercard work to the detriment of everything else.
